Netta Ruth Shannon, of Leland, died July 22, 2015, at the age of 71.
She was born Sept. 4, 1943, in Anniston, Alabama, daughter of the late Harold and Adreene Wainscott.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Charles W. Shannon, in 2007; child, Timothy Shannon, in 2013; and grandchild, Timothy “Dylan” Shannon, in 2010.
Netta was a wife, mother, grandmother and servant of God. She had a smile that could light up the room. Her willingness to put others before herself was just one of the many qualities she possessed. She enjoyed writing as well as serving in her church. She was the secretary for First Baptist Church in Leland for 25 years until December of 2014. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her brother, Ron; children, Kimberli Williams and husband, Kevin, of Leland, and Keith Shannon, of Leland; and grandchildren, Hunter Williams, Jessica Williams, Trevor Shannon, Danielle Shannon, Garrett Shannon, Seth Shannon, Althea Ahlers and Kelsi Williams James.
Too fair a flower to linger here, too greater blessing given, an angel called her from her care and called her home to heaven. The golden gates were opened, a gentle voice said “come” and with a sweet farewell spoken, Netta calmly entered home. Heaven gained another angel.
The family will receive friends at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Leland. Funeral services will follow at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Chris Hall officiating.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Murray, James Hannel, Joey Coleman, Deonte David, David Roderick and Lee Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Burt Vezina and Paul Ford.
Please leave online condolences for the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
