Wilmington police are investigating a shooting that injured a teen at Greentree Apartments on Wednesday.

An 18-year-old man was found shot outside the apartments in the 4900 block of Greentree Road at about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

The teen was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The extent of his injuries and his condition are unknown at this time, Lindsay said.

Men, women and children of the Greentree community watched from behind the yellow tape Wednesday evening as multiple investigators checked the scene.

“A person of interest is currently in police custody and is being questioned about the incident,” Lindsay said.

The Greentree Road shooting is the second shooting reported at a Wilmington apartment complex in the past 24 hours. On Tuesday night, 25-year-old Carlton Walker Whitley was killed in a shooting at Market North apartments on Metting Road. Police have not indicated the shootings could be related.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3609 or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES. Start your message with Tip708, then type your tip.
