Jytte Solvejg Davelaar, of Oak Island, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at her home. She was 84.
Mrs. Davelaar was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, daughter of the late Harry Petersen and Ingrid Jorgensen Petersen.
Mrs. Davelaar was an avid gardener and animal lover. She enjoyed going to the Oak Island Recreation Department and was a member of Ocean View United Methodist Church, having participated in several Bible studies. Mrs. Davelaar loved the Lord and wanted everyone she met to experience His love as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pieter Davelaar; brother, John Petersen; sisters, Kate Jensen and Tove Lauritzen; and grandson, Eric Abdelhady.
Survivors include her son, Derrick Davelaar, of Oxford, Connecticut; daughters, Linda Davelaar, of Wilmington and Tina Hakey, of Boiling Spring Lakes; and grandchildren, Austen, Brendan, Kiersten, Pieter, Joshua, Anna, Omar and Adam.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Ocean View United Methodist Church in Oak Island. A private inurnment will be held at Northwood Cemetery in Southport.
