Clare Pope West, of Wilmington, died July 20, 2015, at her home. She was 89.

Clare was born on Nov. 11, 1925, in Wake County, daughter of the late Janie Ardella J. Pope and Ollie B. Pope. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy West; sisters, Rita Parrish and Clematine Robbins; and brothers, Ed Pope and J.B. Pope.

Clare retired as a chief operator from the General Telephone Company after 30 years of service.

Clare is survived by her son, Kent West, and his wife, Patty West; granddaughter, Britney West; and sisters, Thelma Pope and Donna Ferguson.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Oakdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to a charity of one’s choice.
