Betty Pursley Watson, of Wilmington, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was 80.

Born Oct. 11, 1934, in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Clarence Roy Pursley and Eleanor Sellars Pursley.

On June 25, 1955, she married Jack B. Watson. She was a great cook known for her spaghetti, fried chicken and Thanksgiving dressing.

Betty was a supportive and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she was a great mother-in-law. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She was Jack’s “Silver Fox.”

In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Gail (John) Richards, of Goldsboro; son, Bill (Angel) Watson, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Lauren Richards, Billy Saffo, Ashley Waddell, Zachary Watson, Nicholas Watson, Alex Watson, William Atkinson, Jack Watson III and Josh Watson; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Saffo, Benjamin Saffo, Andrew Turner, Noah Turner, Coty Lanier and Clay Lanier; and lifelong friends, Linda and John Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Watson Jr.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or the charity of choice.
