Aleen Hunt Baggett, of Wilmington, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, in Richmond, Virginia. She was 101.
Mrs. Baggett was born on Dec. 2, 1913, in Wilmington. She was a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, and taught at Erwin High School in Harnett County.
She married Armon Baggett, of Godwin, in 1941. They spent most of their married life in Wilmington. They had two daughters, Shirley Baggett Shaw, of Rochester, New York and Peggy Baggett, of Richmond, Virginia.
Mrs. Baggett was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she headed the Altar Guild for many years and was active in the St. Agnes Auxiliary. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Hanover Seaside Club and the YWCA. Mrs. Baggett was a part owner of Pender Furniture Company on Front Street and later on Market Street. Mrs. Baggett moved to Westminster Canterbury in Richmond, Virginia, in 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, George and Nerta Hunt; brother, George F. Hunt Jr.; sister, Bessie Fay Hunt.
In addition to her two daughters she is survived by her granddaughter, Katharine Aleen Shaw, currently residing in Geneva, Switzerland; son-in-law, John A. Shaw; niece, Marsha Hunt Drish, of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews in North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church library.
