Iva Genevieve Olmsted, of Wilmington, died peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at The Woods at Holly Tree. She was 94.
Mrs. Olmsted was preceded in death by her husband, Burton; son, Walter “Jerry;” grandson, R. “Johnny” Schouten III; and brother, Russell Dean Atkinson.
Surviving are her daughter, Jacquline S. Schouten (Dick); grandchildren, Joshua T. Schouten, Adam J. Olmstead and Andrew J. Olmstead; siblings, Edna Allbright, Bonnie Elms and Everett Atkinson Jr.(Delorma); sister-in-law, Becky Atkinson; four very special great-grandchildren; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Olmsted lived in Indianapolis for over 70 years before moving to Wilmington in fall 2014. She was the front desk receptionist at Indiana University Medical Center Student Union Building for over 30 years. Mrs. Olmsted was a longtime member of Fairfax Christian Church. She loved her church family and all of her dear friends and neighbors.
As per her wishes she will be cremated. In the fall of this year, a portion of her ashes will be scattered under the Beech Tree at her former home in Indianapolis and at the county cabin where she grew up. The remainder will be in inurned beside her husband at Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals, Indiana.
