Col. James G. Currie Jr., 59, physical labor delegator remembered as ‘the sweetest man’

Col. James G. Currie Jr., of Wilmington, died July 15, 2015, at his residence. He was 59,

Born Feb. 7, 1956, in Wilmington, he was the son of the late James G. and Mildred Currie.

A full-bird colonel, he served 34 years in the U.S. Army and was the 507th Brigade commander. He enjoyed researching military history and reading books, especially about chess, music, photography, mosaics and cooking. He was a great delegator when physical labor was involved and his family will remember him as “the sweetest man.”

In 2002 he married Judy Hardwick, who survives him along with his son, Evan; daughters, Ashley and Courtney; granddaughters, Kalliegh and Ellie; sister, Kathy; stepbrother, Lee; stepsister, Lynn; and numerous family and friends.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel with a graveside service at Oakdale Cemetery to follow with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made in James’ name to Pretty in Pink, 1213 Culbreth Drive, Wilmington, NC 28405.
