A New Hanover County school board member has been picked to serve on the State Board of Community Colleges.

Gov. Pat McCrory recently named Wilmington resident Lisa Estep to the board, along with five others from across the state.

Estep, who was elected to the New Hanover County Board of Education in 2012, is currently involved in the school board’s partnership with Cape Fear Community College to establish a Career Technical Education high school in the district, according to a news release.

“In a society that’s growing in technology and as a parent of five children, two of whom have attended CFCC, Estep plans to utilize her role as a state board member to bring awareness to students’ web-based learning needs,” the release reads.

Estep and her fellow new members of the State Board of Community Colleges were sworn in earlier this week during a meeting in Raleigh. McCrory was in attendance.
