Edward Lee Crumpler, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 69.
He was born in Lancaster, South Carolina, on Oct. 3, 1945, son of the late Elbert Norwood Crumpler and Dorothy Sink Crumpler.
Mr. Crumpler retired from JCPenney after 35 years of service. He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Cherry Bland Crumpler; children, Jennifer Leigh Galloway and husband John, of Marietta, Georgia, Dr. Edward Lee Crumpler Jr. and girlfriend Erica Cave, of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Katherine Crumpler, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Parker Galloway, Jensen Galloway, Caroline Galloway, Braydon Caldwell and Wyatt Cave; and brothers, David Crumpler and wife Barbara and Jim Crumpler.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 411 Market St., Wilmington with Dr. Jim Everette officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Esmond Anderson, Rudy Cobb, Jim Currin, Jim Everette, Lawton Jones, Paul Peterson, Don Slawter, Josh Rammel, Tom Wallace and Gary Wilcox.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Neil Musselwhite and staff and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice staff for their excellent care.
