Carolina Beach Town Council on Tuesday scheduled a public hearing for next month regarding the proposed Harris Teeter on Lake Park Boulevard.

The hearing, set for 7 p.m. Aug. 11, will be open for public comment on a conditional use permit being requested that would allow for a 53,288-square foot Harris Teeter grocery shopping center to be built on the 7-acre property at 1000 and 1010 N. Lake Park Blvd. Space for an additional 5,480 square feet for future expansion is also being sought, bringing the total building size to 58,768 square feet. Unique to this proposal, the property would include a cafe and pharmacy with a drive-thru window as well as an on-site fuel center.

The Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Commission voted last week to approve the application, made by BBM Associates of Raleigh, so long as issues of connectivity and landscaping were considered and addressed.

The application will now go before town council next month at Carolina Beach Town Hall.
