Leland police have arrested a woman on more than 100 charges, including identity theft and fraud.
Elizabeth Jane Cruz, 32, has been charged with 53 counts of identity theft, 47 counts of misdemeanor accessing computers, three counts of misdemeanor larceny, three counts of forgery of a check, two counts of uttering a forged check and one count of financial card fraud, according to Leland Police Department Lt. Jeremy Humphries.
Leland detectives began their investigation in May, Humphries said. Cruz was arrested July 10.
“The complainant filed the report after finding numerous purchases dating back to February 2015 had been made to online businesses and some to local Leland area businesses,” Humphries said.
Additional charges are expected in the case. The investigation is ongoing, Humphries said.
Cruz was booked at the Brunswick County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
Three Brunswick County men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery reported in Southport.
A man was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in the area of Second Street in Southport in the early morning hours of July 11, according to Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Emily Flax.
The suspects reportedly took $200 in cash from the victim and a cell phone, Flax said. The victim was not injured during the robbery.
Bradley Hunter Smith, 20, Cody Hughes Clifton, 24, and Jacob Damon Huff, 19, were arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon after a search warrant was executed at Smith’s home, Flax said.
The suspects were arrested by the sheriff’s office, with assistance from the Boiling Spring Lakes Police Department, she added.
Smith, of Boiling Spring Lakes, Clifton, of Southport, and Huff, also of Southport, were booked at the Brunswick County jail under a $1 million secured bonds.
A 37-year-old man was taken to the hospital early Monday morning after he was cut with a knife.
The victim was approached by two white men in the area of Sixth and Queen streets just before 4 a.m, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
One of the suspects talked to the victim while the second suspect reportedly walked behind the victim and cut him under the chin with a knife, Lindsay said. The victim ran away from the suspects. He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
