Elsie Mae McFadden Boone, of The Commons at Brightmore in Wilmington, died July 9, 2015, at the age of 90.

Born July 13, 1924, in Kanona, Kansas, Mrs. Boone graduated from James Walker Memorial School of Nursing in 1945 and worked as both a nurse and homemaker. She was a member of the Goldenrod Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a worthy matron.

She served as secretary of the Railroad Old Timers Club for many years. She also served as an adult Sunday school teacher for over 20 years and was very active in the life of her church, Sunset Park Baptist Church.

Mrs. Boone was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Boone Sr.

She is survived by her son, William Edward Boone Jr. and daughter-in-law, Iris, of Wilmington; her daughter, Janice Boone Baucom and son-in-law, Mickey, of Davidson; grandchildren, David Boone and Brian Boone, of Leland, Julie (Dalton) Andrews, of Cumming, Georgia and Jason Dalton, of Sandy, Oregon; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Iris Roland (and husband Paul), Mary Ann Graham and Frances Lester, all of Greensboro.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunset Park Baptist Church, 231 Central Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28401 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
