Dennis Edward “Mickey” McDermott Jr., of Ocean Isle Beach, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick. He was 80.

Born in Bronx, New York on Aug. 25, 1934, he was a son of the late Dennis E. McDermott Sr. and Eleanor Muller McDermott.

He was an avid card player and fan of the New York Giants. Mickey was a U.S. Army veteran and retired after 42 years with the ILA New York Shipping Association.

He will be remembered for being a wonderfully loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and sponsor. He was a friend of Bill W.

Mickey was preceded in death by a brother, James McDermott.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Patricia “Pat” McDermott; son, Danny McDermott; daughters, Maureen Christie and husband Richard, Terri Presutti and husband Tony and Tricia Horn; grandchildren, Kelly and husband Mike, Keri and husband Spencer, Megan, Nick, Rickie, James, Maggie, Andy, Caleb and Dennis; and great-grandchildren, Danica, Dominick and Michael.

A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Brunswick Memorial Gardens with military honors.
