In an initiative to support a healthy and active lifestyle, the Brigade Boys & Girls Club held a summer camp field day for more than 250 area children on Friday.
The field day was a fun-filled afternoon for local youths that featured dancing, tug-o-war, water balloon launchers and sack races.
Angie Hill, Vice President of Operations for the Brigade Boys & Girls Club, said the field day was not only for the kids to enjoy themselves, but also to get some exercise and participate in living an active and heavy lifestyle.
“The field day is also an opportunity for the group of 75 volunteers to come here and learn more about our kids, learn more about our club and who we’re serving and learn what kind of programs were running here,” Hill said. “We want them to continue to become involved and also be an advocate for us in the community.”
The field day was the culmination of a “spirit week” for the club, which had the kids divide into teams and participate in themed days that included crazy hair day, jersey day, crazy sock day and twin sock day.
