Walter Charles Kunz Sr., beloved husband, brother and father, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the age of 82.
Walter was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 26, 1933. He attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in manufacturing engineering in 1962. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma.
Walter worked at General Electric for 42 years, first in their Jet Engine Division in Evendale, Ohio, and then in their Nuclear Division in Wilmington beginning in 1972. Mr. Kunz was an elder at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, taught Sunday school, served in various committees and sang in their choir for 42 years. He also volunteered at the International Seamen’s Center at the State Port for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie L. Kunz, to whom he was happily married for 57 years; brother, Kenneth Montag; children, Walter Jr., Marianne and Richard; grandson, Carl A. Kunz; as well as in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, the International Seamen’s Center orLower Cape Fear Hospice.
