Adam Lamar McCutcheon died June 29, 2015, at the age of 29.

He was born on July 10, 1985, in Wilmington to Sonja Reneé McCutcheon. He was raised in Hampstead and attended Topsail High School, where he played football, participated in the band and was a member of the National Honor Society. In 2003, he graduated with honors and left to attend college at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he received his bachelor’s degree in information systems.

In 2007, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received his first commission as an officer in 2013. He was promoted to lieutenant junior grade in 2014.

Adam is survived by his wife, Lidia; daughter, Arianna; son, Ethan; mother, Sonja Reneé McCutcheon; father, Johnny Gaskin; sister, Allyce McCutcheon; brothers, Aric and Aiden McCutcheon; uncle, André (Xavier); and grandparents, Billy (Mervain) Brown and LaVance (Grace) McCutcheon. Adam also leaves a host of other family members and former classmates, teammates, shipmates and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mervain N. Brown.

A memorial service honoring the life of Adam McCutcheon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the Topsail High School auditorium. Visitation with the family will be held 30 minutes prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
