Larry “Lon” Gordon Jr., of Wilmington, died July 6, 2015, at the age of 72. He was loved by many.
Lon had some great achievements in his life. He attended New England College where he graduated at the top of his class in engineering. He also served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
Professionally, he worked in civil engineering and construction for many years. He worked for Cowper Inc. and ARCO Co. before starting his own company. In his later years of retirement, he enjoyed day trading, surfing the internet and watching programs that highlighted the past.
We all loved him dearly and treasure the happy moments we were able to share with him over his lifetime, including introducing his grandkids to shows on the History Channel, taking his oldest son to his first R-rated movie, walking his daughter down the aisle, summer boating and camping trips or telling his wife how beautiful she was on a daily basis. Those are the moments we remember and celebrate. We hope that those who knew him are able to cherish their own fond memories.
He is survived by his two younger sisters, Lea and Suzie; his children and grandchildren; and of course his loving wife Bette, to whom he was married for 33 years.
The family will have a private service at their family house in Maine.
Those wishing to pay their respects are simply asked to keep the family, especially his loving wife Bette, in their prayers.
In lieu of flowers or gifts the family asks for donations to be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, where Lon was able to pass with the peace and dignity we all hope for in our final days.
