Wilmington Post 10 pounded 19 hits and Max Johnson went for the cycle in a 15-3 rout over Hampstead Post 167 in game one of a best-of-five series at Topsail High School on Thursday night.

Johnson went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth in top of a two-run double to give Post 10 a 2-0 lead after Kennedy Hardy and Ward Coleman reached base with two outs in the top of the first.

Brandon Boone struck out eight, allowing three earned runs over seven innings, scattering five hits and three walks.

Danny Wilson hit two home runs and accounted for all three runs scored for Hampstead, who fell to 4-4 this summer.

Lambert Long added three hits, two runs and two runs batted in for Wilmington. Coleman also finished with three hits and three runs, while Donovan Francis had three extra base hits, including two doubles and  triple.

Game two is at 7 tonight at Legion Stadium.

Hope Mills 5    Brunswick County 1

Hope Mills grabbed a 5-1 victory from Brunswick County in a lightning-shortened 6-1 victory in six innings on Thursday night.

Cameron Lewis gave up two earned runs over five innings of work, while Kevon Perkins went 2-for-3 to pace Brunswick County. Zack Johnson also drove in a run and went 1-for-3.

Hope Mills has a 1-0 series lead, with game two scheduled for Friday in Fayetteville.
