James J. Jacobs, 74, greatest accomplishment, joy of his life was his son

James J. Jacobs, of Leland, died Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the age of 74.

James was born in Rowan County on Jan. 9, 1941, son of the late Thomas James Jacobs and Willie May Miller Jacobs. He was also preceded in death by his only brother, Carl Lee Jacobs.

James proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and tinkering with anything mechanical. He began his career as an apprentice electrician and worked his way up to assistant superintendent, but his greatest accomplishment and the joy of his life was his son, DaRon.

James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Ballard Jacobs; son, Robert DaRon Jacobs and his wife, Amy R. Jacobs; sister, Hazel Smith; sisters-in-law, Doris Ballard and Janice Ballard; niece, Teresa McCarty; and nephews, Tom Cartner, Larry E. Ballard and Ronald Todd Ballard.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28403 with the Rev. Kenneth Long and the Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Military Honors will follow provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Post 10.
