The Post Café, which opened its doors earlier this month, is the latest coffee shop to hit the Wrightsville beach area.

Located at the south end of Wrightsville beach above the South End Surf Shop, the café is co-owned by Wrightsville Beach locals Chad and Leslie Nifoussi.

According to Chad Nifoussi, the couple wanted to grab a cup of coffee or a drink after hitting the beach, and since there wasn’t a place for them to do that, they decided to create one themselves.

“The idea behind the café is an amalgam of a few different ideas. It’s an outpost for coffee out there [Wrightsville] since there’s nothing as far as coffee and it’s also to appeal to costumers who want to relax post-beach, post-surf, post-workout.”

The Nifoussis felt that the location above the South End Surf Shop was the most conducive for encapsulating those ideas and the space, which had not been occupied since the sixties, enabled them to create a unique antiquated atmosphere.

“We didn’t want to be cookie-cutter” said Chad Nifoussi. “During our renovations we wanted to stay true to the space, so we saved the old flooring, windows, and window trimming.” He also salvaged an old photo of the building they found during the building renovation, which he’s proud to have hanging on the wall.

The building, which Chad Nifoussi believes was part of the Glen Hotel, contained a restaurant downstairs with the upstairs–where the Post Café currently resides–used for hotel overflow with extra beds for vacationers.

While the cafe specializes in coffee, the shop also includes beverages such as beer and wine, an assortment of gelato flavors, and food menu that includes breakfast, pizza, sandwiches and vegetarian options.

“We wanted to bring all of our favorite foods and drinks and be able to showcase them too,” he said.

“We really just want it to keep developing into a fun, laid-back place where locals and tourists alike can both go, feel at home, relax, bump into neighbors, meet up with friends and just have a cool spot to hang all while enjoying some great refreshments, foods (with lots of healthy alternatives) and good vibes!”

The Post Café is located at 708 South Lumina Ave., Wrightsville Beach, and the hours of operation are as follows:

Monday through Friday: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
