In a unanimous vote on June 26, Brunswick County commissioners approved a resolution that confirmed the sale of what was once Brunswick Community Hospital to Centre Development Co. for $750,000.
According to Brunswick County Spokeswoman Amanda Hutcheson, the purchaser is not required to disclose the intent of the purchase and that the county does not have any current applications for permits for future development on the site.
The 74,000-square-foot property, located off of U.S. 17 in Supply, closed in September 2011, when Winston-Salem based Novant Health opened the 252,000-square-foot Novant Brunswick Medical Center in July 2011. When Novant Brunswick Medical Center opened, the hospital and its land reverted back to the county.
According to the resolution passed by commissioners, the current deal to sell the property to Centre Development Company has been in negotiations since September 3, 2013.
Previous suggested uses of the former hospital have included a VA center, a vocational school, the county’s health department and other acute-care medical uses.
