A paramedic has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at his Hampstead home on Friday morning.

Dennis Robert Westberg, 37, of Moores Landing Road, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Larry Joshua Goodson, according to Pender County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jamie Ezzell.

Deputies responded to Westberg’s home at about 6 a.m. Friday, when Westberg reportedly called 911 to report he had shot someone in his home. When deputies arrived, they found Westberg standing outside his home and Goodson, of Hampstead, fatally shot inside the home.

Westberg has been a paramedic at New Hanover Regional Medical Center since December 2004, according to hospital spokeswoman Claire Parker.

Westberg is being held at the New Hanover County jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear in Pender County District Court on Monday.
