A man and woman suspected of killing a 49-year-old man in Cumberland County were arrested in Carolina Beach on Thursday.
Justin Wayne Quick, 20, and Misty Dawn Burns, 24, were arrested on first-degree murder charges in the death of William Ted Foster, according to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bobby Reyes.
Firefighters discovered Foster’s body after they extinguished a small fire behind a storage building on Tom Starling Road in Fayetteville. Foster, of Fayetteville, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for an autopsy, Reyes said.
Quick and Burns were believed to be traveling in Foster’s 2011 silver Chrysler 300, Reyes said.
Foster’s vehicle was spotted at a at the Buccaneer motel, 201 Cape Fear Blvd., on Thursday, according to Carolina Beach Police Capt. Harry Humphries. The police department verified the vehicle was stolen and contacted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
From there, a joint investigation began at about 10 a.m. Thursday, as officers and members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force conducted a surveillance of the motel, Humphries said.
Cumberland County detectives, Carolina Beach Police and the FBI secured the motel and evacuated rooms, Humphries said. Authorities called Quick and Burns out of the room and the suspects were arrested without incident at about 5:30 p.m., Humphries said.
Quick and Burns were booked at the New Hanover County jail under a $1 million secured bonds. According to Reyes, the suspects will be taken to Cumberland County on Friday for their first court appearance.
