Local authorities are investigating two armed robberies reported at gas station convenience stores early Thursday morning.
An armed robbery was reported at the Kangaroo Express, 2375 S. 17th St., at 12:30 a.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
Two men with with their faces covered reportedly took cash from the register and Newport cigarettes at gunpoint, Lindsay said. The suspects ran toward the back of the store, possibly headed toward Delaney Avenue. They were described as two skinny black men in their early 20s.
The same men are suspects in an armed robbery reported at Walgreens, 2130 S. 17th St., at 10:50 p.m. June 18, Lindsay said. The suspects reportedly took cash and Newport cigarettes.

Man robs Scotchman store at knifepoint
Sheriff’s deputies responded an armed robbery at the Scotchman, 5302 Carolina Beach Road, at about 12:45 a.m., according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Sgt. Jason Augst.
A man reportedly entered the store armed with a small knife and took several cartons of cigarettes and cash, Augst said. The suspect ran from the business. He is described as a white man with short hair who is about 6-3 and in his 50s. He wore a brown shirt, khaki shorts and dark colored shoes.
