An 8-year-old boy suffered minor leg and foot injuries from what appeared to be a small shark bite, according to a notice from the Surf City Police Department.

Surf City Police and Pender East EMS responded to the possible shark bite near the 700 block of South Shore Drive at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities said the wounds were superficial and not considered serious. The child was treated on the beach and was taken by his parents to Scott’s Hill Emergency Room.

The incident is the fourth reported shark bite in southeastern North Carolina waters this month.

On June 14, two children—an 12-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy—were seriously injured in separate shark attacks while swimming 20 yards offshore of Oak Island. A 13-year-old girl was reportedly bitten by a shark off the coast of Ocean Isle Beach on June 11.
