Norma Donaphine “Donna” Vaughan died June 21, 2015, at the age of 92.

She was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Angier, to Flora Blanche Johnson Matthews and Ralph Donavan Matthews. Her husband, Walter “Pete” Vaughan, preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Matthews Swenson; two brothers, Ned Matthews and Bobby Joe Matthews; a stepdaughter, Pat Vaughan Scanlon (Johnny); a stepson, Michael Vaughan; step-granddaughter, Cyndi Vaughan Bonner; and a daughter-in-law, Joanne Vaughan.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Vaughan Johnson (Jim); son, Steve Vaughan (Brenda); stepson, Bobby Vaughan (June Ann); grandchildren, Stephanie Maready Woodson (Chris), Shannon Vaughan Eason and Steve Vaughan (Priscilla); step-grandchildren, James Johnson (Jenny) and Joe Johnson (Christy); great-grandchildren, Tristan Vaughan Carver, Kimberli Vaughan Theopolis, Brandi Vaughan Potter, Stephen Vaughan, Chris Eason (Holly), Hannah Eason and Eric Eason; step-great-grandsons, Jimmy Johnson and Jay Johnson, Mickey Vaughan and Danny Vaughan; step-great-granddaughters, Karen, Linda, Susan Scanlon, Gina Davis and Neah Jo Farr, Stacey Vaughan and Chrissy Vaughan; great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Aria and Nicolas; and special nieces and nephews, Kathryn Surles (David), Deborah Matthews (Ricky), Al Matthews (Anfesa), David (Valerie), Eric (Laura) and Wanda Matthews Melanson (Peter).

Donna and her husband “Pete” owned and operated Wilmington Adjusting Company, an independent insurance adjusting company. She and her family were active members of Wrightsville Beach Methodist Church when her children were young where she played the organ. For many years now she has been a devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Wilmington where she has in the past played organ and piano. She was an avid bridge player and had many close bridge friends.

Donna had a lovely attitude with an infectious laugh which made people happy to be around her. She attended Campbell College where she majored music and subsequently became a piano teacher. She was an active member of the Wilmington Association of Insurance Women and served as president and was awarded “Insurance Woman of the Year.” She was also active with the Wilmington Insurance Adjusters Assn. where she was active and served on many committees.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 3302 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. A reception will follow at the fellowship hall.
