Richard S. Pindell III, of Wrightsville Beach, died peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was 79.

Rick was born in Alamance County, son of the late Richard S. Pindell Jr. and Matilda Mann Pindell. He is survived by his son, Richard Scott Pindell and daughter, Elizabeth Pindell White; grandchildren, Angela White Brewer (Lentz) and Richard Thomas White; his brother, Jack Mann Pindell (Julia); as well as many nieces and nephews.

A proud Blue Devil, Rick attended Duke University where he was a student manager of the Duke University Basketball team in 1953-1954 and 1954-1955. Rick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was recognized as the Airman of the Year in 1958 at Hunter Air Force Base. He enjoyed a 45-year career in real estate in Raleigh where he served as president of the Raleigh Board of Realtors, president of the Realtors Institute and served on the Executive Committee of the North Carolina Association of Realtors before retiring to Wrightsville Beach.

Rick loved to travel, play golf and tennis, watch Duke Basketball and listen to jazz. He served on the Board of Directors of the Raleigh Wake Jazz Society, as well as the North Carolina Jazz Festival. He cherished his friends and neighbors at Seapath and loved his church family at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk where he was active on several committees.

Rick was quick to ask any stranger, “Where are you from?” confident that he could make a connection and a new friend. His outgoing personality and positive attitude will be remembered by many as “fandamntastic.”

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, 2 W. Fayetteville St., Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, Rick requested that a donation be made to either Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or She Rocks, Inc., a local non-profit that supports the Zimmer Cancer Center in Wilmington and the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center in Chapel Hill, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, NC 28402.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
