Masonboro.org, a nonprofit group that aims to keep Masonboro Island clean and accessible, is seeking volunteers for its annual island cleanup on July 4.

For the sixth year, Masonboro.org volunteers will hand out trash bags to the island’s visitors and help clean up after the holiday weekend, which is the busiest weekend of the year for the barrier island. Last year, 70 volunteers took to the island to help clean and to educate visitors about “keeping New Hanover County’s most precious resource clean and pristine,” according to a notice from the group.

According to Masonboro.org, the group’s mission is “to protect public access, promote responsible use and preserve the traditions of Masonboro Island.”

Volunteers are most-needed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 4.
