UNCW Men’s Soccer Coach Aidan Heaney announced the addition of Joel Bylander to the team heading into the 2015 season as the native of Sweden recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the local university.

A native of Sweden, Bylander has played for the Djurgårdens IF U17, U19 and U21 teams over the last two seasons. After starting 25 matches for the U17 team in 2013, he appeared in six matches for the U19 squad.

Bylander also started 32 matches for the U19 team in 2014 and contributed four goals before appearing in six matches for the U21 team. He also helped the Djurgårdens IF U19 team finish in third place at the Swedish U19 Championship.

In addition, Bylander has also helped his Djurgårdens U19 club team to a first place standing in the U19 division of the Allsvenkan, the Premier League of Swedish soccer.

“Joel will be a welcomed addition to our team,” said Heaney. “He has played at a very high level with his club in Sweden with both the U19 and U21 sides. He is a technically gifted midfielder who is clean on the ball and has the ability to link the play and control possession.

“Winning the center of the midfield is critical for any team and I feel we have the talent and depth to be strong in that area.”

The Seahawks, who reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, will begin their 2015 campaign on Aug. 28 against High Point.
