Following the retirement of Dr. Michael D. Carter, who is closing of his practice, Carter Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, OrthoWilmington specialists will begin providing Carter’s patients with access to on-going orthopaedic treatment, as well as to their medical records.
Carter has practiced orthopaedics in the community for more than 20 years, including some time with Wilmington Orthopaedic Group, according to a news release from the company. In 2012, Wilmington Orthopaedic Group merged with Atlantic Orthopedic Group to form OrthoWilmington.
Carter is closing his practice to allow him greater flexibility with his family. He saw his last scheduled patient on Thursday. Carter notified his patients that their records, including radiographs (x-rays), will be forwarded to OrthoWilmington for custodianship in April. He referenced OrthoWilmington as “the region’s largest provider of orthopaedic care, representing multiple orthopaedic specialties,” the news release states.
The transfer gives established patients of Carter Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine seamless access to OrthoWilmington’s 23 board-certified and fellowship-trained specialists, as well as the practice’s mid-level providers, physical therapy services, MRI imaging, and AccessOrtho, a walk-in service for convenient care.
“We are honored that Dr. Carter has shown confidence in our expertise by trusting us to continue to care for his patients,” said OrthoWilmington Chief Executive Officer Stephen L. DeBiasi. “We wish him well in his retirement from medicine, and we warmly welcome his patients and staff to OrthoWilmington.”
