No foul play is suspected in the death of a 32-year-old man who was found in an apartment complex pool early Wednesday morning, according to police.
Police responded to a community pool at The Pines of Wilmington apartments at about 2:30 a.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. Joseph Tirres Patterson, of Wilmington, was found dead in the pool, Lindsay said.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Patterson and an acquaintance had climbed over a fence to get into the pool after hours,” Lindsay said. “The acquaintance left the area for a while and when they returned, Patterson was deceased in the pool.”
Police are investigating Patterson’s death as a possible drowning. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Lindsay said.
