Doris Smith “Bootsie” Ladner, of Wilmington, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at the home of her daughter. She was 83.

Bootsie was born July 3, 1931, in Portsmouth, Virginia, daughter of the late Albert Vanderslice Smith and Ethel Bassnight Smith. Her husband, Willie Buford Ladner; two sisters, Marjorie Claxton and Nellie Smith; and a granddaughter, Tina Ladner, preceded her in death.

Bootsie was a very special and loving mother and grandmother “Nanny.”

She is survived by her son, Ronald Ladner (Ronda), of Laveen, Arizona; daughter, Elaine Cashion (Ray), of Asheboro; son, Mike Ladner (Charlene), of Peoria, Arizona; son, Steve Ladner and daughters, Anita Russo and Teresa Thrush, all of Wilmington; sister, Faye Norman, of Virginia; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel with Dr. Gordon Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Masonboro Baptist Church Cemetery.
