Students in the Communities in Schools (CIS) Action for Success Program at Leland Middle School, along with members of the North Brunswick Kiwanis Club (NBKC) have been working on a community service project to beautify their school courtyard.
Students and adults planted flowers and plants, weeded, fertilized and watered the garden, according to Todd Beane, CIS of Brunswick County spokesman. Repairs were made to an existing bird bath, along with hanging of a new bird feeder and bird houses donated by NBKC members. NBKC members also purchased new furniture to place in the courtyard for visitors.
The courtyard beautification project will help students have pride and ownership in their school, Beane said.
