Richard Byars McCartney, of Wilmington, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at home. He was 90.

He was born on May 22, 1925, in Wilmington, son of the late Harry and Ila Byars McCartney. Richard was also preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Larkins McCartney and brother, Harry McCartney Jr.

Richard is survived by his wife, Dot Godley McCartney; sons, Richard B. McCartney Jr. and Robert G. McCartney (Margarette); grandchildren, James R. McCartney and Amanda Brewer (Chase); stepchildren, Joy Borgiorno and Larry Godley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was in the roofing business for over 60 years. He is an active member of Ogden Baptist Church. Richard was a dedicated family man.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Ogden Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Danny Justice. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or to a charity of one’s choice.
