Bonnie Sanders Burney’s life was taken on June 11, 2015. She was 12.

Sanders was the cherished daughter of Louis and Stephanie Burney. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her younger brother, Louis III; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kress; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Burney, all of Wilmington; and special cousins, Augusta and Fulton Smith and Carter and Chase Adams, who all love her dearly.

Sanders was a very lively, intelligent and sweet soul. She was adored by her many friends, teachers and family. She had completed sixth grade cum laude at St. Marks Catholic School and had received the Most Improved Tennis Award. Sanders loved the beach, the family camp and was an avid reader. Her spirit, enthusiasm and passion for life was contagious. There are no words to describe how much she will be missed.

The family would like to thank the EMS team of Alleghany County and Mrs. Missy Cass RN who provided great love and care to Sanders during the school year.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2015, at St. James Episcopal Church, Wilmington. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ron Abrams, with a reception following at Lee Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark Catholic School in Sanders’ name.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Andrews Mortuary.
