Eunice Robertson “Robbie” Horne, a native of Vance County and daughter of the late James Madison Robertson and Bessie Pendergrass Robertson, died peacefully at the age of 95 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice on June 10, 2015.

Robbie was born in Henderson on Sept. 22, 1919. Reared on a large farm, she was the ninth born in a family of 13 children and had one foster brother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Newton Horne Jr.; granddaughter, Shelly Marie Horne; six brothers; five sisters; and a foster brother.

She has one surviving sister, Bessie R. Edwards, of Henderson. Also surviving are four children, Douglas R. Horne and Pamela J. Horne, both of Wilmington, Benjamin J. Horne (wife, Sue), of Fruitvale, Texas and David T. Horne (wife, Teri), of Daphne, Alabama and a stepson, Benjamin N. Horne III, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Lauren H. Page, Lindsay H. Swaim, Michael F. Horne, Mandy H. Spaulding, Leanna H. Jackson, Melisa H. Thigpen and David T. Horne Jr. ; and great-grandchildren, Alex Roberts, Aaron Thigpen, Ethan Thigpen, Tyler Horne, Alyson Horne and Ashlyn Swaim.

Robbie graduated from Aycock High School in Henderson and from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh. She and her husband were active members for many years at Myrtle Grove Advent Christian Church.

She was a homemaker and a great cook of seafood and cornbread. She liked the changing seasons and especially birds and flowers. She took in all the wonders of life, especially the wonders of nature. You could always see flags flying in her yard at her home on the Intracoastal Waterway. A sports fan, she loved basketball and baseball and was an avid worker of crossword puzzles. She was also a professional accountant. She had a special way of touching people’s lives with her kindness and humor. Robbie was a woman of grace and dignity.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015, at the Horne Family Cemetery on Antoinette Drive (entrance to Marquis Hills, Monkey Junction), Wilmington, NC 28412 with Pastor Tim Berry of Raleigh officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robbie’s memory may be made to the Horne Family Cemetery, c/o M. Woods, 1088 Leesburg Drive, Leland, NC 28451 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

The family will be at her home in Myrtle Grove Sound.
