obit flagDonald “Don” Michael Barbey, of Calabash and formerly of Asheboro, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, Bolivia. He was 72.

Mr. Barbey was born on July 23, 1943, in South Gate, Michigan, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Barbey. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years and retired from UPS. After retiring, he worked for Coastal Pool PPM until his declining health. He was also a member of Greystone Baptist Church, Asheboro and attended Grace Mission Baptist Church, Shallotte.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Lynda W. Barbey; daughter, Donna H. Hollady and husband, Terry, of Ramseur; two grandchildren, Jeff Hollady, of Ramseur and Rich Hollady, of Greensboro; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jaxon Hollady.

Mr. Barbey loved feeding his animals and playing ball with his granddog Smokie and he will be missed by his four cats, Charlie, Mutt, Blackie and Patches.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Howard Locklear and Mr. Pete Norton officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.

The family expresses a special thank-you to the staff of SECU Hospice House of Brunswick for their exceptional care and support.

Don was a very loving Christian man. He will be missed dearly by everyone.
