Lt. Col. Williamson “Wally” Newell Wallace Jr., of Oak Island, died June 8, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. He was 76.

Mr. Wallace was born July 19, 1938, in Mooresville, the son of the late Williamson Newell Wallace Sr. and Hazel Houston Wallace. He was raised in Mooresville and went on to become a highly decorated veteran in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He served in the Army for 20 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Mr. Wallace was a member of Oak Island Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ursel Wallace; a son, Billy Wallace and wife, Nicola, of Holland, Michigan; a daughter, Susan Carter and husband, Walter, of China Grove; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Sea Lawn Memorial Park in Hampstead with the Rev. Walter Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Island Presbyterian Church, 1503 East Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465.
