David Paul Heidenreich, of Wilmington, died peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2015, having battled Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was 45.
David was born July 21, 1969, in Peoria, Illinois. David grew up in Peoria and attended Eastern Illinois University. He relocated to North Carolina with his job and it was in Raleigh that he met and married the love of his life, Mary Rader. They moved to Wilmington where he started a successful business, A Goodnight Sleepstore, with his partner and friend, Sonny Langley.
David and Mary quickly became an active part of the community. He was an active member at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church and coached his son’s soccer team, the Panthers. David loved spending time with his family and especially loved being with them at the beach and in the mountains. David’s last words of advice to his son, Walker, were to “always be there for your family, love life and don’t always worry about work. Always be unselfish, and do things for others because it is the right thing to do.”
David is survived by his wife, Mary Rader Heidenreich and children, Walker (7) and Louise (5); his parents, Jacqueline Wenzel Heidenreich and Buford Heidenreich and his wife, Debra; brothers, Donny and Michael; many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins; mother and father-in law Cindy and Mike Rader; brother-in law, Michael; many, many close and loving friends; and his sweet chocolate lab, Molly.
David and his family are grateful to Dr. Todd Kornegay, Dr. Billy McNulty, the caring and loving staff on the 10th floor of New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the church with the Rev. Steve Hein and the Rev. Rob Lapp officiating.
In lieu of flowers, David’s family encourages contributions to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401; St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1416 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28401; or to the charity of your choice.
