Crime notebook: Leland man charged with sex offense of a child; man reportedly breaks into CFCC’s Fine Arts Center

A Leland man his being held under a $200,000 bond at the Brunswick County jail after he was arrested on a sex offense charge on Saturday.

Kymond Juantorey Auther, 19, has been charged with first-degree sex offense of a child, according to arrest warrants. Auther is accused of sexually assaulting a child who was younger than 13 years old from July 1, 2014, through July 31, 2014, according to arrest warrants.

He is expected to make his first appearance in Brunswick County District Court on Monday.

An armed robbery was reported at 1:26 a.m. Sunday at the Carolinian Inn on Market Street, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay. A woman reported that a man armed with two handguns stole her purse and ran from the hotel property. No suspect description was available.

Also on Sunday, Wilmington Police Department’s downtown task force officers responded to Cape Fear Community College’s Humanities and Fine Arts Center, 701 N. Third St., where a man reportedly broke into the yet-to-be-opened college facility.

Patrick Joseph Flynn, 28, of Wilmington, was arrested without incident and charged with breaking and entering, Lindsay said.
