Despite another strong from junior Evan Phillips, it was LSU’s Alex Lange who was able to pick up the win as the second-ranked Tigers advanced to Sunday’s championship round of the Baton Rouge Regional with a 2-0 victory over the Seahawks at Alex Box Stadium.

UNCW (40-17) will face Tulane for a second time in the regional at 4 p.m. Sunday in an elimination game. The Tigers (50-10), meanwhile, will play the winner of that game at 8 p.m.

Lange shutout the Seahawks, who had their seven-game winning streak halted, on six hits to raise his record to 11-0. He struck out 12 and walked two. Phillips (2-2) took the loss for UNCW. He allowed one run on eight hits and finished with three strikeouts.

LSU collected three consecutive hits off Phillips to open the seventh as Kade Scivicque doubled. Back-to-back singles gaves the Tigers a 1-0 lead and LSU added one more insurance run in the eighth to close out the win.

Gavin Stupienski had two hits for the Seahawks, but UNCW went hitless with runners on base.
