The N.C. Coastal Federation has partnered with Carolina Beach State Park to hold an oyster restoration event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday.
Staff and volunteers will fill mesh bags with oyster shells and limestone marl to place in the Cape Fear River to complete a new oyster reef, according to a news release. Oyster reefs are crucial for the estuarine food web, provide valuable habitat and filter water.
Volunteers are being sought to assist in the restoration efforts. To register to volunteer, visit the Federation’s Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center, 309 W. Salisbury St. in the Historic Square at Wrightsville Beach, or click here.
