Junior Luke Dunlap homered twice and drove in five as part of an 18-hit UNCW onslaught, leading the second-seeded Seahawks past No. 3 Northeastern 16-7 in game four of the CAA Baseball Championship on Thursday.
The Seahawks (37-16) advance to Friday’s 1:30 p.m. winners’ bracket game against either College of Charleston or Elon. The Huskies (25-29) will play an elimination contest at either 10 a.m. or 5 p.m. Friday.
Eight of UNCW’s nine starters had multiple hits and the 16 runs were the second-highest total for the Seahawks this season. To go along with Dunlap, junior outfielder Zach Shields went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and sophomore outfielder Casey Golden was 3-for-6 and knocked in three.
Freshman lefty Whitman Barnes (5-0) came out of the bullpen to pick up the victory for UNCW, surrendering two runs on six hits over five innings.
