Rebeca “Becky Jo” Jo Burroughs Currin, a 27-year Wilmington resident, died May 20, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was 66.
She was born March 1, 1949, in Bennettsville, South Carolina.
She is survived by many family and friends who will continue to love and cherish her memory. Her three beloved children, Scott Bertrand, Jeni Currin and Stuart Currin; her brother, Larry (Sonny) Bourroughs; and her sister, Debbi Corse; and grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will remember and share what an amazing and bright-spirited woman she was.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Gladys Burroughs; sister, Ann S. Burroughs; her loving husband, Gerald Thomas (Tommy) Currin; and her beloved dog, Tres.
She was a registered nurse for more than 40 years and became a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Her hobbies included reading, singing a capella with The Burrougs Young’ins, dancing, camping with The Liars and Girlfriends and occupy middle sound and she attended Lutheran Church of Reconciliation.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Riverside Park, 6710 Old Bridge Site Road, Castle Hayne 28429. All who wish to attend the celebration of life are welcome. Please join us promptly at 4 p.m. (or you will miss the surprise) for music, spirits and remembrance as we celebrate the life of Becky Currin. Mamma wants a party and celebration. Not a funeral. We will do our best to honor her wishes at this event. Covered dishes are welcome, but not required. Adult beverages (beer/wine) are permitted. BYOB (it’s a party for mama).
