James David Peebles III, of Oak Island, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia. He was 85.

David was born Jan. 20, 1930, son of the late James David Peebles and Grace Tussey Peebles, of Norfolk, Virginia. David graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk and the University of Virginia. He served his country in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg where he was a paratrooper. David attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Wilmington.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Patrick Peebles.

Survivors include his aunt, Virginia Tussey Ledbetter; a stepbrother, Andrew Henderson and wife, Sue; his loving cousins; and his very special friend, Susan.

According to his wishes, a small get together with friends and family will be held on the back porch at a later date.

The family would like to thank all the neighbors and friends for all their help; a special thank-you goes to Father Elliot, Dr. Palagruto and all the caring staff at the hospice care center.
