James Buckner Stokley Sr., of Wilmington, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the age of 93.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Helen Auld Stokley; four sons, James B. Stokley Jr. and wife, Carolyn, Robert A. Stokley and wife, Anne, Dennis G. Stokley and wife, Sharon and Richard V. Stokley and wife, Marcia; grandchildren, Matthew Stokley, Blair Stokley, Elizabeth Stokley, James Stokley and Kimberly Stokley; step-grandchildren, Anne Matney and husband, David, Harold W. Cutler Jr. and wife, Sharon and Caroline Maxwell and husband, Andy; and eight great-grandchildren.

His family welcomes friends and relatives to visit from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at the home, 4611 Mockingbird Lane. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington followed by a reception at Gilmore Hall.

Mr. Stokley was a Wilmington native and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in commerce. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, serving in the China Burma India Theater. He started his business career with Thomasville Furniture in High Point and returned to his hometown of Wilmington to work for the Babcock and Wilcox Company where he retired after 32 years of service.

Mr. Stokley enjoyed collecting antiques, woodworking and furniture refinishing and during his retirement he and his wife owned Auld-Stokley Antiques.

The family requests that donations in memory of Mr. Stokley be directed to First Presbyterian Church – Kenan Chapel Bell Fund or to Meals on Wheels.
