City pools to open Saturday

The City of Wilmington’s swimming pools will open Saturday on an abbreviated schedule.

According to City Spokeswoman Malissa Talbert, city pools will be open for Memorial Day weekend on Saturday and Monday, and for the next several Saturdays, May 30 through June 13.

The pools will officially open for the summer season on June 15, with the exception of the Northside Splash Pad, which will open for the season on May 23.

Admission to the pools is $1 for children and $2 for adults. Admission is free to the splash pad. All city pools are closed on Sunday, except for the splash pad, which is open daily. All facilities are handicap-accessible and have life guards on duty at all times.

The Legion Stadium pool, 2131 Carolina Beach Road, will be open from noon to 5 p.m. May 23, May 25, May 30, June 6 and June 13. Beginning June 15, the pool will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 1-6 p.m. Tuesdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The Robert Strange Pool, 410 S. 10th St., will be open from noon to 5 p.m. May 23, May 25, May 30, June 6 and June 13. Beginning June 15, the pool will be open from 1-6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Northside Pool, 750 Bess St., will be open from noon to 5 p.m. May 23, May 25, May 30, June 6 and June 13. Beginning June 15, the pool will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.  The Northside splash pad, also at 750 Bess St., is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (weather permitting) from May 23 to Sept. 9.
