Thetis Jones Moore, 88, felt strong sense of family, will to maintain family bonds

Thetis Jones Moore, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Liberty Commons on Racine Drive. She was 88.

She was born in Wilmington on Oct. 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Charles Franklin Jones Sr. and Dorothea Quelch Jones. Also remembered are her husband, Donald “Don” A. Moore; a son, William Richard “Dickie” Moore; a brother, Charles “Franklin” Jones Jr.; a sister, Dorothea “Dottie” Henderson; and a nephew, Phillip Henderson, all of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Moore was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother (“Me-Me”) with a strong sense of family and the will to maintain those family bonds. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, animals and art. She was a member of the North Carolina Zoo Society and a lifelong member of Hanover Seaside Club.

In addition, Mrs. Moore was a huge NASCAR fan, particularly of Rusty Wallace. Her family, especially her son Danny, will remember her as his “eating buddy” and “best friend.” She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her son, Daniel “Danny” Moore and wife, Mary; three grandchildren, Brooklyn Moore, Jessica and Alexis Hall; a sister, Charlotte Parker; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Oakdale Cemetery.

The family wishes to express a special note of thanks to the entire staff of Liberty Commons on Racine for the care and compassion given to Mrs. Moore.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the North Carolina Zoo.
