Wilmington man arrested in last week’s stabbing on Cathay Road

A Wilmington man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing last week that prompted lockdowns at four area schools.

Nicholas Daniel Baker, 34, was arrested Thursday, charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and assault inflicting serious injury in connection with a stabbing reported last Friday morning in the 300 block of Cathay Road, according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.

Four area schools–Anderson and Bellamy elementary schools, Murray Middle and Ashley High–were locked down for several hours as deputies searched for Baker. He turned himself in to the sheriff’s office Thursday morning, Brewer said.

Baker was taken to the New Hanover County jail, where he was placed under a $50,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in New Hanover County District Court on Friday.
